Longueuil police have arrested 46-year-old Yves Roy in connection to a violent attack at Mont-Saint-Bruno Park, in Montreal’s south shore.
He faces three charges, including attempted murder.
The incident took place Friday, Sept. 2 at 12:30 p.m., after a man allegedly violently attacked a 50-year-old woman on the trails.

The woman was jogging alone in an area near Lac des Bouleaux.
She told police the man suddenly attacked her; the two did not know each other.
Police said she managed to fight off the man, find someone to help her and was brought to hospital to be treated for several injuries, including broken ribs.

Residents who frequent the park were on edge after hearing news of the attack.
“It’s scary to know something like that can happen here,” Virginie Allard-Poliquin told Global News.
“I won’t stop coming here but I’ll be coming with someone.”

“I thought it was just terrible because it’s such a lovely, peaceful mountain,” Janet Hosier, who has been coming to the park for 42 years, said.
“An attack can happen anywhere but here, it’s so strange and rare and bizarre,” Hosier said.

Officials encourage anyone who uses the trails to stay safe on the paths by observing a few measures:
- Make sure you carry a means of communication, such as a cellphone, to contact emergency services if required.
- Don’t walk alone, make sure you are accompanied by at least one other person.
- Have an object that emits loud noises to attract the attention of passersby in an emergency situation.
