WEST KELOWNA – Approximately 12 per cent of eligible voters cast their ballot over two days of advance polls in the City of West Kelowna’s borrowing referendum.
Voters are deciding if the city should borrow up $7.7 million to build a civic centre to house a new city hall, Interior Health offices and residential units.
Proponents say the current, cramped city hall is inadequate.
Opponents believe the money would be better spent elsewhere, such as improving the water system and roadways.
General voting day is Saturday, September 17 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Polls will open at:
· Constable Neil Bruce Middle School, 2010 Daimler Drive
· George Pringle Elementary School, 3770 Elliott Road
· Glenrosa Middle School, 2974 Glen Abbey Place
· Mar Jok Elementary School, 2101 McDougall Road.
In the first advance poll last Wednesday, 1,597 ballots were cast, while the second say 1,544 votes.
There an estimated 26,000 eligible voters in West Kelowna.
The referendum comes after the city’s borrowing plans were earlier rejected through the Alternative Approval Process.
