Edmonton homicide suspect wanted on Canada-wide warrant arrested in B.C.

A 26-year-old man has been charged in connection with the death of a man whose body was found in an Edmonton ditch earlier this year.

Austin Mackenzie Southworth, who turned himself in to B.C. RCMP over the weekend, has been charged with second-degree murder, possession of a dangerous weapon and robbery.

Edmonton police said Southworth turned himself in to Mounties in Campbell River on Vancouver Island at around 11 a.m. Saturday.

The 26-year-old was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant in connection with the death of 37-year-old Brad MacDonald, whose body was found in a ditch near Stony Plain Road and Winterburn Road, north of the 215 Street traffic ramp, on the morning of April 10.

Police said an autopsy showed MacDonald died of blunt-force trauma.

A friend of MacDonald told Global News he grew up in Beaver Bank, N.S., but that he had been working in Alberta for the past few years.
