WINNIPEG – More than 60 Winnipeg firefighters and nineteen fire trucks were involved in the battle to douse “one of the largest fires that WFPS crews have attended with regards to number of firefighters and pieces of equipment used,” officials said Tuesday.
The fire that started just before 5:30 pm Monday caused millions of dollars in damages.

-Damage is estimated at $15 Million
-Speedway International stores 170,000 litres of methanol, 400,000 litres of racing gas, and 300,000 litres of biodiesel
-A safety perimeter of 1000 metres was established for homes and businesses west of the fire
-A safety perimeter of 800 metres was established for fire crews
-Approximately 100 residences and businesses were evacuated
-During the course of the fire, approximately 61 WFPS members were on site
–50 evacuees used Fort Garry Curling Club as temporary shelter
-Winnipeg police provided approx. 20 units to helpwith traffic control
–19 pieces of equipment were used to fight the fire
-Winnipeg transit provided 2 buses for evacuees to seek immediate shelter
