Blue Bus drivers in West Vancouver vote to strike

A West Vancouver Blue Bus. District of West Vancouver

The union representing Blue Bus operators in West Vancouver have voted in favour of a strike.

Around 18,000 passengers could be needing another way of getting around later this week if today’s expected 72 hour strike notice is issued.

However, the District of West Vancouver says there will be no disruption to service over the long weekend. Even if the union provides 72 hour strike notice today, they are not in a legal position to strike until both parties have met with the mediator and the mediator decides that the parties are too far apart.

Unlike Vancouver, transit in West Vancouver is operated by the district, not TransLink.

Some of the issues on the table include working conditions and benefits.

Despite the strike vote, union leaders still hope to avoid a service disruption.

This strike will also affect the bus route that connects downtown Vancouver to the Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal.
