Recently, they started connecting businesses with New Hope for puppy play dates in workplaces.

With each party, the storage company donates $200 to the foster program that currently has more than 80 dogs, according to New Hope executive director Tami Vangool.

“When this litter gets adopted we have a couple other litters of puppies. It should bring our numbers down,” Vangool said, adding that new foster homes are always needed.

Though businesses receive parties free of charge, some like K+S Potash Canada, facilitate donations to New Hope.

A wellness committee of K+S employees decided to bring puppies to the workplace as part of its mandate to encourage healthy lifestyles.

It also made a dog owner out of K+S employee Heather Richinski.

“It was a lot of peer pressure from my coworkers,” Richinski said with a laugh.

She adopted Rascal, a seven-month-old husky-collie cross. Since his appearance at the party, he’s learned to fetch and is enrolled in puppy school.

“Nobody loses here. It’s a win-win for everybody and our lives are forever better with Rascal in it.”
