Death of woman in Cranston not criminal: Calgary police

Calgary police say the death of a woman whose body was found in the driveway of a Cranston home on Saturday is not criminal in nature.

Police were called to the 100 block of Cranston Green S.E. at around 7:15 a.m. for reports of a person in medical distress. EMS said a woman was declared dead at the scene; her body was found lying next to a brown truck.

Police originally classified the death as suspicious pending autopsy results.

“The Homicide Unit was called to investigate as a precaution, however the investigation has found the death is not a criminal matter,” police said in a Monday news release.

Area residents told Global News a young couple with a three-month-old baby live at the home, but don’t believe the young mother was the victim.

“Apparently she was the grandma,” neighbor Kristy Standford said.

Police said further information, such as the cause of death, will not be released as the death is no longer considered suspicious.
