BEI investigates fatal police shooting

WATCH ABOVE: Quebec's Independent Investigations Bureau is investigating after a man, reportedly wielding a knife, was fatally shot by Quebec provincial police officers who were responding to a domestic disturbance call near Drummondville, Que. Friday evening – Aug 27, 2016

A 41-year-old man is dead following a Quebec provincial police intervention Friday evening in Saint-Cyrille-de-Wendover, roughly 115 kilometres northeast of Montreal.

According to the Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes (BEI), Quebec’s Independent Investigations Bureau , two Sûreté du Québec officers responded to a domestic disturbance call around 9:45 p.m.

Upon arrival, the officers were reportedly confronted by a knife-wielding man.

After a brief discussion with police, the armed man is said to have attacked the officers.

The BEI said that’s when at least one shot was fired by police, fatally injuring the man.

The BEI has sent six investigators to the small community near Drummondville, Que. to look into the matter.

Montreal police investigators have been called in by the BEI to assist in the investigation.
