26-year-old drowns at Caddy Lake over weekend, alcohol believed to be a factor

Manitoba RCMP are investigating an incident after a 26-year-old man drowned at Caddy Lake Saturday.

Around 3:30 a.m., Falcon Beach RCMP responded to a report of a man who had jumped off a dock to go for a swim in Whiteshell Provincial Park.

The man swam for a short distance and began to struggle. After disappearing under the water, he did not resurface, RCMP said.

RCMP, the fire department and attended on scene. STARS Air Ambulance was initially called but were told to stand doing enroute as “it was no longer medically required to transport a patient.

Emergency personnel performed CPR and the man transported to a local hospital.

Hours later, the 26-year-old from Winnipeg was pronounced dead.

An autopsy has been scheduled to confirm the cause of death. Alcohol is believed to be a factor, RCMP said.

This was the second drowning over the weekend.

On Saturday at Birds Hill Provincial Park, a 22-year-old man drown. He has been identified by friends to Global News as 22-year-old Jean-Baptiste Ajua.
