Ryan Poplar has been sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to criminal negligence causing the death of his wife, Dina Shepherd.
Poplar was charged in February 2014 after Shepherd, 46, died in October 2013 after taking an overdose of prescription drugs at their Saskatoon home.
He didn’t seek medical attention for almost 12 hours after Shepherd took the pills after the couple had a fight.

Poplar pleaded guilty just as his jury trial was scheduled to start in April.
He was also sentenced to six months, to be served concurrently, for uttering threats against two people.
Poplar is also prohibited from owning firearm for 10 years after his release and must submit a DNA sample.
