REGINA – A candidate for mayor of Regina found himself in defensive mode for much of the night when he squared off with seven other mayoral contestants in a debate on the city’s proposed football stadium.
Eight of the nine candidates in the Oct. 24 municipal election took part in the Thursday night community club debate on a new home for the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Tim Siekawitch, Liz Brass, Jim Elliott, Marian Donnelly, Chad Novak, Meka Okochi and Charles Wiebe all took turns slamming the $278-million proposal.
Some said the existing Mosaic Stadium should be renovated, while others argued that the process is being rushed, that it’s not transparent enough and that other issues take priority.
But candidate Michael Fougere (foo-ZHAYR’), a city councillor, says there have been no secret documents or back-door meetings on the issue, and that everything he has seen is available to the public.
