Police say alcohol may be to blame for a single-vehicle rollover in south Edmonton Wednesday morning that left one woman dead.

Just before 1 a.m., police were called to the area of Anthony Henday Drive and 91 Street. Officers said a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt was heading west on the Henday when it lost control, entered the centre median and rolled into the eastbound lanes.

A 27-year-old woman was thrown from the vehicle and ended up on the road. She was taken to hospital where she died.

The rollover is still under investigation but police do not believe the driver was wearing a seat belt at the time.

This is Edmonton’s 17th traffic fatality of 2016.
