Montreal firefighters rescued three people and evacuated another 150 early Wednesday morning after a fire broke out in an apartment building on Boyer Street in Villeray.
The fire alarms failed to go off, but officials said they were not broken and the building passed an inspection in 2015.
The blaze broke out around 3:45 a.m. in the kitchen of a fourth storey apartment.
Some residents had to be rescued from their balconies, mostly on the third and fourth floors.
Most of the people in the building are seniors.
One fireman was hospitalized for heat stroke, while two residents were hospitalized for smoke inhalation and minor burns.
Officials are trying to figure out why the fire alarms failed to go off, but believe they may have been silenced.
