Former RCMP officer’s appeal denied

Canada’s highest court has refused to hear an appeal from a retired RCMP officer who is now serving a life sentence for the second degree murder of his partner in their Penticton Home.

The Supreme Court of Canada does not offer reasons for its rejection or acceptance of appeal applications.

Lynn Kalmring.

Keith Wiens has always maintained he was acting in self-defence when he shot an enraged Lynn Kalmring in August 2011, as she advanced on him with a knife, but evidence at trial suggested the knife was placed in Kalmring’s hand after she was shot in the face.

Wiens was sentenced to life behind bars with no parole for at least 13 years, but his appeal of the sentence is continuing.
