SMITHS FALLS, Ont. – A man and a woman from eastern Ontario are facing charges after the confidential information of 285 clients of the Family and Children’s Services of Lanark, Leeds and Grenville was posted online earlier this year.
Police in Smiths Falls, Ont., say they conducted a three-and-a-half-month investigation before laying charges against 28-year-old Kelley Denham and 50-year-old Derek Flegg.
Police say the pair allegedly accessed the computer system of the family and children’s services agency and then allegedly posted a link to one specific document online.
Denham and Flegg, both residents of Smiths Falls, face charges of theft under $5,000, mischief over $5,000, mischief to data, unauthorized use of a computer, trafficking in identity information and publication of identifying information under Ontario’s Child and Family Services Act of Ontario.
Police say the pair are set to appear in a Perth, Ont., court on Oct. 3.
