The 19th annual Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup attracted about 200 volunteers to a Richmond beach early Saturday morning with one goal in mind – to clean up our shorelines.

Over the years the event has helped save the lives of many marine animals that could get sick or die from eating the trash on the beaches.
Last year alone, there were more than 56,000 volunteers across Canada who picked up more than 144,000 kilograms of shoreline trash.
The biggest offenders? Cigarette butts, food wrappers and plastic bags.
