Montreal has a garbage problem. Each of us living on the island of Montreal produces at least 541 kilograms of waste a year, the majority of which is loaded onto trucks and driven north of the island to landfills near Lachenaie and Ste. Sophie. This summer, despite the objections of people living near the landfill sites, the provincial government okayed the expansion of both dumps so they can continue to receive our garbage.
