NOTE: All warnings and watches mentioned in this story have ended
A tornado warning issued just before noon Thursday had ended within the hour, Environment Canada said. However, the threat remained Thursday afternoon.
Tornado watches were issued for parts of eastern Alberta, including Leduc, Vegreville, St. Paul, Wainwright, Barrhead and Lloydminster.
They also extended across the border into Saskatchewan, where tornado watches were in place for the Kindersley, Rosetown and the Battlefords regions.
Damaging winds, large hail and intense rainfall were possible, according to the weather agency.

Residents are asked to take cover when necessary into a room on the lowest floor of strong buildings away from walls and windows. Experts suggest you lie in a low spot and protect your head from flying debris as a last resort.
“People are safest making their way into a basement,” Global News meteorologist Jordan Witzel said. “Those who know people living in the Vermillion and Lloydminster areas should contact them immediately.”
Environment Canada said one or more weak tornadoes may happen in the area.
“They sometimes appear as funnel clouds with swirling debris near the ground.”
