Pittsburgh Penguins defenceman Derrick Pouliot, 22, brought the Stanley Cup to his home province on Wednesday.
More specifically – his hometown of Weyburn, Sask.
Community celebration with 2016 Stanley Cup champion and Weyburn Minor Hockey Association (WMHA) alumni Derrick Pouliot took place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. CT at Crescent Point Place.
Fans got a chance to have their photo taken with the trophy and they also were treated to a BBQ outside Crescent Point Place, sponsored by Pouliot & WMHA.
All proceeds from barbecue and raffle will go to KidsSport and WMHA.
Pittsburgh drafted the Saskatchewan product – eighth overall – in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
In June, the Penguins won their fourth Stanley Cup in franchise history with a 4-2 series victory over the San Jose Sharks. Pouliot appeared in 22 games in the regular season for the Pens and suited up in two playoff contests this spring.
Regina’s Chris Kunitz also raised the Stanley Cup this past season and he had the cup in the Queen City on Tuesday.
