Police search for missing mushroom picker in northern Saskatchewan

RCMP are searching for an elderly man who left to go mushroom picking and hasn’t been heard from in a few days.

Seventy-year-old Tony Olekas left Nipawin, Sask. to go mushroom picking approximately 14 kilometres west of Hanson Lake Road (Highway 165 area near Big Sandy Lake), on July 18.

He was reported missing to police by his family on July 25 after no one heard from him since July 22.

RCMP have been searching the areas where Tony was reported missing but have not had any luck finding him. The area that RCMP is searching is very remote with almost no cell service.

Tony is 5’11” tall with a medium build and short cut grey hair. He was last seen wearing dark coloured work clothes.
