K-Days lured into Pokemon Go craze

Guests play Pokemon Go at K-Days July 23, 2016. Global News

If you love K-Days and Pokemon Go, you don’t have to choose one or the other: you can enjoy both at the Edmonton midway.

“It was a really fortunate and lucky coincidence that we have five Pokestops on site,” Sheri Drewe with Northlands said. “Once it became legal in Canada and we realized we had the five sites, plus we had the gyms nearby too, it was sort of, ‘how can we make this more accessible and even more exciting for K-Days guests?'”

This year, K-Days is jumping on the virtual scavenger hunt bandwagon. It’s hosting a 10-day lure party for Pokemon Go trainers.

“It’ll go over the full 10 days at K-Days where we’re going to be bringing in as many Pokemon as we can find and hopefully get some really rare and interesting ones in as well.”

Until this year, the popular summer festival was known for its midway rides, musical entertainment and creative food offerings. Now, it can add a Pokemon hot spot to the list.

So now, players can get their Pokemon Go fix alongside their Mac N Cheese Stuffed Burger and Deep-fried Coffee.

Drewe said there have already been Pikachu and Squirtle sightings.

“It’s been constant. We’ve seen – constantly – people looking down on their phone, we’ve seen large groups of people trying to catch them,” she said.

“It’s been a really interesting experience watching how the community is really bonding and coming together over Pokemon Go.”
