Montreal police have arrested a fifth officer in relation to an internal investigation that started in December 2015.
Authorities arrested the individual without a warrant, citing “reasonable probability” that a criminal act had been committed.
The officer’s identity is not being released, as charges have not been laid.
The individual has been suspended without pay.

On July 7, Montreal police arrested four officers following irregularities that were found in the division that takes care of informants.
“We must, as a police organization and in the interest of transparency, reassure the public that our informants will be safe,” said Police Chief Philippe Pichet.
Of those arrested, David Chartrand faces four charges and Faycal Djelidi faces nine, including perjury and obstruction of justice.
Djelidi faces additional charges of solicitation, paying for sexual favours and breach of trust.
The identities of the other two officers have not been released.

During a press conference to speak about the four officers that had been arrested, Pichet insisted the public should not worry.
“We are all concerned when one of our own crosses the line, the entire police community is affected,” he said.
“The majority of officers do an excellent job.”
The investigation is ongoing.
