TORONTO – As kids return to school this week, the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada (SOCAN) released the top seven songs about school inked by Canadian songwriters.
Combing through a database of songs by more than 110,000 SOCAN members, seven Canadian hits have more than 100,000 radio plays on a variety of channels, showcasing what Canada has to offer.
According to SOCAN, the list was determined by the number of performances that each song has enjoyed and its relevance to school or learning.
“Whether it’s back-to-school season or the middle of summer or any occasion, music feeds an essential part of Canadian life, and SOCAN nurtures those who produce what we need,” said Eric Baptiste, SOCAN CEO in a press release. “Canadians have written some of the world’s greatest songs and, without their original music, life in this country wouldn’t be nearly as enjoyable. SOCAN connects people to music.”
