Nova Scotia Premier Stephen McNeil says a byelection for Halifax Needham will be called sometime this summer or fall, but won’t say when a general election will take place.
When questioned by reporters about when the next provincial election will be, McNeil admitted he has sent a directive to all incumbents to start the nomination process so he knows who is running.

However, the premier stopped short of saying exactly when he intends to call an election, saying he hadn’t given it “a whole lot of thought.”
“I’m preparing our party for a general election sometime in the future,” he said.
A byelection is required in the riding of Halifax Needham because former NDP MLA Maureen MacDonald resigned in early April.
