Givens is one of four racers named to Canada’s triathlon team for the 2016 Rio Games. The 37-year-old qualified for the Paralympics by winning a World Paratriathlon event in Spain in May. The victory was Givens first on the International Triathlon Union circuit.
“Growing up, I had the mindset of being the best that I can be and to not be afraid to work for it,” said Givens in a statement. “My dad had told me that we appreciate things more the harder we work for them and I can definitely say that I appreciate this opportunity.”
Givens won the national paratriathlon championship in three consecutive years from 2012 to 2014. She’s also placed fourth at the World Championships twice.
