The playing surface, Revolution 360, has been designed and manufactured by FieldTurf. It is one of the more popular field surfaces in the United States and the new stadium in Regina will be the first stadium in the Canadian Football League to use this kind of turf.

“Our playing surface is world-class and will be a great benefit to all users of our new stadium,” Mayor Michael Fougere said in a statement.

“I’m looking forward to seeing the Rams and Huskies play on it later this fall as we start making new Mosaic moments.”

Currently the stadium is around 93 per cent complete. The first test game in the new stadium will be on October 1 when the University of Regina Rams will face the University of Saskatchewan Huskies.

“We are proud to have been chosen to provide the playing surface at new Mosaic Stadium,” Eric Daliere, FieldTurf President, said.

“We share a commitment to excellence and a deep appreciation of sport just as all the partners in the stadium project in Regina and we’re excited to begin this phase of the project.”

Full installation of the new turf is expected to take approximately five weeks.

Here are some FieldTurf facts:

  • Other notable FieldTurf projects include Gillette Stadium in Foxborough Mass., CenturyLink Field in Seattle and Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Ind.
  • Approximately 10 FieldTurf staff will be part of the installation of the turf.
  • Installation will take approximately 1,300 hours. This is the about the same amount of time it would take to watch 433 regular-season Rider games. That’s 24 seasons worth of football!
  • The turf was delivered in 44 rolls.
  • Approximately 30,000 recycled tires were used in the new Mosaic stadium turf. That’s enough tires for 7,500 cars, or how big the average post-game traffic jam feels.
  • The turf includes 842,061,312 fiber blades.
  • Once complete, the field will weigh over 561 tonnes. On average, offensive linemen weigh 136 kilograms, or 300 pounds. It would take 4,125 o-linemen to equal the weight of the field, which is enough for 825 lines.
  • The size of the playing surface at new Mosaic Stadium totals 121,826 square feet. If you stretched that area out in a straight line, it would be like running 4,000 first downs.
  • The current field at current Mosaic Stadium is also from FieldTurf and was installed in 2007.
