Automated messages sometimes get it wrong and travellers at the Edmonton International Airport (EIA) Monday were given a reminder of that.
People at the airport were told by an automated message over the PA system to evacuate the premises Monday afternoon in what the airport later referred to as a “false alarm.”

According to EIA spokesperson Heather Hamilton, the airport was testing its PA system following some updates when an automated evacuation message played out. She said while it was an unfortunate incident, the message was turned off within a minute and showed the message does work.
“It’s good to know people will respond and react when we need them to,” Hamilton said.
According to Hamilton, the airport is able to deliver both live and automated messages over its PA system.
