MONTREAL – Most of the time, moving day means going up and down stairs, in and out of trucks and it requires lots of heavy lifting.

“It’s a crazy day,” said Joaquin Poundja, who was moving into his NDG apartment.
“Every time I move on July 1, people tell me I’m crazy.”
Nevertheless, around 200,000 people are taking part in the craziness across Quebec as the rest of the country celebrates Canada Day.
Many Quebecers’ leases expire and begin on the same day of the year, making the move pretty stressful.

“Everybody’s doing this the same day – it’s not a good idea,” said Fanny Goyette as she moved into her Plateau apartment.
“I think we should follow the rest of Canada and switch up the days.”
To ease the stress, 3M has been going across the city to surprise people struggling with boxes and furniture.
“We know it’s a quite a grueling day for most people,” said 3M national account manager Lynn Bergeron.
“With that, we have comedian Phil Roy, and a team of 3M people that are helping individuals move across the city.”
3M used social media to get in touch with Quebecers who needed a hand.
Once they got onsite, the team helped people with their move, and even left behind some goodies.
“We were just trying to figure out how we’re going to ever fit our sofa inside and all the boxes were kinda piling up,” said Goyette.
“Then they just arrived and were like here’s a ton of Gatorade and trying to feed us – and they’ve been helping ever since, so it’s really great.”
For every person who uses the hashtag #3Mmovingparty, they’ll donate $2 to Habitat for Humanity Quebec.
This year, they’re hoping to raise $10,000 to provide Quebecers with affordable housing.
