A gender gap still exists in many vocations, including municipal politics.
While women make up more than half of Canada’s population, only 25 per cent of the country’s elected municipal representatives are female.
Saskatoon bucks that trend however, with women making up half of the city’s councillors.
The Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) says the problem is not that women aren’t being elected, it’s that not enough women are entering races.
FCM is trying to bridge the gender gap and is offering a number of programs for women thinking about entering politics.
A workshop will be held in Weyburn next month.
