Global Calgary meteorologist Jordan Witzel takes the 22 Pushup Challenge

Global Calgary meteorologist Jordan Witzel is taking part in an online campaign to raise awareness about the startling numbers associated with military suicide.

The 22 Pushup Challenge is based on statistics that indicate 22 American veterans commit suicide every day.

“Here in Canada, the statistic is closer to one life taken every three weeks,” Witzel said.

Participants pledge to film themselves completing 22 pushups every day for 22 days.

“The hope is to get people talking about the subject and encourage them to support our veterans,” Witzel said.

He began the challenge Monday during Calgary’s Global News Morning.

“I’ll be doing 22 pushups every day for the next three weeks and calling other groups out to take part as well.”

Witzel said he was challenged to complete the initiative by retired Canadian Forces member Mark Fuchko while emceeing the inaugural Colborne’s Forces Benefit Concert last Thursday.
