A 10-year-old boy from Colorado said his secret hobby blossomed from the simple fact he wanted kids in hospitals to know someone cared about them.
Garrett Lowry, 10, has a love for knitting and knows that to some it may seem a bit out of the ordinary for someone his age.
“Some people say it’s unusual, but it’s just a part of my life,” Lowry told KUSA News, an affiliate of NBC.
But that didn’t deter the young Denver, Colo. boy from wanting to knit hats for children who are currently ill and in hospital.
“I just want to make something that can make them more comfortable while they are in the hospital,” Lowry told KUSA.
So, along with the help of his mother and grandmother, Lowry took a class project of making 15 caps into 50 and gave them to some very lucky kids at the Children’s Hospital Colorado.
“It not only taught him some things but it teaches us some things too,” said Lowry’s father, Don, to KUSA.
Lowry is proving to others that you can never be too young to do a good deed.
“I want children to feel better about themselves. And feel that they are appreciated and that they’re loved,” Lowry said.
According to KUSA, Lowry wants to continue his work with children who are sick and even plans on working with the Ronald McDonald House.
