10 injured after roller-coaster derails at Scotland’s M&D’s theme park

Multiple people were injured after a roller-coaster came off the tracks Sunday at a popular theme park in Scotland.

The park closed soon after the incident, according to the park’s website.

“A spokesperson for M&D’s said: ‘a serious incident occurred at M&D’s today involving the tsunami roller-coaster. We have all emergency services on site to assist,’” the website read.

WATCH: Police in Scotland say 10 people were injured when a roller-coaster crashed off the rails today at a theme park.

BBC news reports out of the 10 people injured on the Tsunami ride, eight were children. Police said they were being treated in hospital. Police initially said 11 people were injured but revised the number later in the day.

An official from the Scottish ambulance service told the Guardian that “a specialist operation team” was on scene, along with six ambulance crews.

An eyewitness told BBC that people were trapped upside down on the coaster.

Another said she saw the ride crash on top of another ride.

“I could see that there was lots of people trapped – probably up to 10 – and I saw a girl upside down, stuck,” 13-year-old Caitlin Barnes told BBC.

Emergency workers were called and the park was then evacuated.

Pictures from the park show a chaotic scene.

Katie Burns said on Facebook she had gotten off the ride minutes before it crashed.

“It’s like something out a horror film [sic],” she wrote. “My heart goes out to everyone on it.”
