The official opening event also introduced a new public art piece by local Alberta artist Craig Le Blanc.
It features four turf fields, a baseball diamond, change rooms and playgrounds.
“This is the first outdoor athletic facility that we have built in the city of Calgary in 28 years, if you can believe it,” Mayor Naheed Nenshi said.
Construction of New Brighton Athletic Park began in 2014 with funding from Alberta’s Municipal Sustainability Initiative.
The Southeast Calgary park is located on 58 Street and 130 Avenue.
