Who’s coming to TIFF and who’s not (and who might)

TORONTO – The celebrity guest list for this year’s Toronto International Film Festival was unveiled Tuesday morning and it was a name that was not on the list that had people talking.

Kristen Stewart, recently busted for cheating on her boyfriend (and Twilight co-star) Robert Pattinson, was at first not among the dozens of stars officially scheduled to walk red carpets during TIFF. Hours later, her name was added to the list. So unless she changes her mind, Stewart will be in the city to promote On The Road.

There’s a Schwarzenegger on the list (Patrick, not Arnold); an Urban (Karl, not Keith); a trio of rappers (Ice-T, Will Smith, Snoop Lion); plus a Depp, a Dorff, a Gad and a Gadon.

Here are some other observations about the TIFF guest list:

Stars most likely to share a hotel suite

Depending on timing, there are a few celebrities coming to TIFF who could share a hotel suite. And they’re going to need some kids’ car seats in the chauffeur-driven SUVs.

Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem, who married in July 2010, each have films at TIFF. Her Twice Born will have its world premiere at the festival; his To The Wonder has its North American debut. Will they be in the city at the same time – and will they bring their 19-month-old son Leonardo?

Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber return to TIFF for the world premiere of The Impossible and North American premiere of The Reluctant Fundamentalist respectively. The parents of Alexander, 5, and Samuel, 4, have been together since 2005 but have played coy about whether they are, in fact, married.

Celebrity date nights

The star power at TIFF could get turned up a few levels if the famous spouses and significant others of some of the celebrities scheduled to be in town also show up.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Ben Affleck, at TIFF for the world premiere of Argo and the North American debut of To The Wonder, could show up with wife Jennifer Garner (and they can chill out with the man who married them, Canadian actor Victor Garber). Kevin Bacon could be one degree away from his wife Kyra Sedgwick at the North American premiere of his film Jayne Mansfield’s Car. Desperate Housewives star Felicity Huffman might join her husband William H. Macy at The Sessions. Actor Paul Bettany might join wife Jennifer Connolly at the world premiere of her film Writers.

Rachel McAdams, who grew up in St. Thomas, Ont., could show up at screenings of her films Passion and To The Wonder with actor beau Michael Sheen.

Stars from the music world could also be walking red carpets. Will Justin Bieber come home to Canada to support girlfriend Selena Gomez at the North American premiere of Spring Breakers? Will Muse lead singer Matt Bellamy accompany Kate Hudson to the North American premiere of her film The Reluctant Fundamentalist? Will Coldplay’s Chris Martin show up to support his wife Gwyneth Paltrow at the world premiere of Thanks For Sharing?

Of course, all eyes will be on the red carpet for On The Road to see if Kristen Stewart shows up solo.

A family affair

They’re here for different films but Vanessa Redgrave, attending the world premiere of Song For Marion, could catch up with her daughter Joely Richardon, who’s at TIFF for the world premiere of Thanks For Sharing.

Stars who don’t have to travel far

Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen can attend the North American premieres of The Hunt and A Royal Affair if he gets time off from playing the titular character in Hannibal, the NBC series he’s shooting in Toronto until February. (Let’s hope they serve fava beans and Chianti at the after-parties.)

Lily Collins won’t have far to travel to attend the world premiere of her film Writers. The British actress is in Toronto until November shooting The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. She’ll likely bring her boyfriend (and City of Bones co-star) Jamie Campbell Bower.

Canadian actress Rachel McAdams lives in Toronto’s Bathurst and Harbord neighborhood so don’t be surprised to see her ride her bike or take public transit to the North American premieres of Passion and To The Wonder at TIFF.

Song and dance numbers

This year’s TIFF has all the makings of an all-star flash mob.

Two Glee stars will be in the city: Darren Criss, whose movie Imogene has its world premiere at TIFF and recurring guest Gwyneth Paltrow, who has the world premiere of Thanks for Sharing

Add in Selena Gomez (Spring Breakers) as well as High School Musical grad Zac Efron (The Paperboy).

Keeping their distance

Things could get awkward! This year’s TIFF guest list includes plenty of exes who may not necessarily want to run into each other.

Rachel McAdams, who has two films at the festival, will likely avoid her ex-boyfriend (and The Notebook co-star) Ryan Gosling, who will be in the city for the world premiere of The Place Beyond The Pines.

Susan Sarandon, who’s here for the North American premiere of The Company You Keep, probably won’t be keeping company with her ex Tim Robbins, whose Thanks For Sharing has its world premiere at TIFF.

Things could get frosty at Winona Ryder’s screening of The Iceman if TIFF guest Johnny Depp shows up.

Live, from New York!

A bunch of Saturday Night Live grads will be at TIFF: Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, Bill Murray, Molly Shannon and Kristen Wiig.
