th Vancouver will soon be home to an innovative idea that gives a whole new meaning to food containers.
Called Hawkers Wharf, the open-air market will be located at 925 Harbourside Drive in an unused lot. But with dozens of decommissioned shipping containers, it won’t be like any food market Metro Vancouver is used to.
“Really the idea is to create a new space in Vancouver for awesome local food businesses to exist in,” says Chris Jerome, who pioneered the Hawkers Markets in Vancouver years ago.
Dozens of food producers will use the containers at any one time, and they’re all set up as customizable, functional kitchens.
“They’re modular kitchen structures, all turn-key operations, built with the intention of supporting food entrepreneurs,” says Jerome.
Hawkers Wharf will support restaurants of all different types, a communal kitchen for chefs, as well as a market – but the exact companies taking part will be revealed later this summer.
“We’ve been talking to everyone in Vancouver about this…what you can expect here is a really unique experience based around food diversity,” says Jerome.
