A British Columbia man has been charged after police in Ontario allege a hockey trainer sexually assaulted one of the young players on his team over several years in the 1970s.
York Regional Police said the trainer befriended the then-12-year-old boy in 1974 when working with the team.
It’s alleged the trainer sexually assaulted the boy “on numerous occasions” while driving him home from an arena in the Vaughan neighbourhood of Woodbridge over the next two years.
Police further allege the trainer sexually assaulted the boy on two separate trips to the man’s family home in Quebec and a Hunstville, Ont., cottage in 1974 and 1976.
According to police, the alleged victim contacted investigators in 2014.
Nicolas Cadorette, 67, of Abbortsford, B.C., turned himself into police on June 14, police said Wednesday. He faces two counts each of indecent assault of a male and gross indecency.
Cadorette is scheduled to appear in court July 19.
Investigators have released an image of the accused and are encouraging any other alleged victims to come forward.
