The incident happened around 7 a.m. on Dynevor Road in the area of Eglinton Avenue West and Dufferin Street.

The victim’s son told Global News his father, identified as John Parreira, was on his normal morning routine was he was fatally hit.

“He goes for a walk. He goes to the bakery,” said Walter Cabral. “The van came northbound and they think that he might have just crossed the street and the van hit him.”

Police say the driver of the vehicle remained on scene.

A passenger inside the van claims the pedestrian cut in front of them.

“We were driving 15 km up the hill and he was going north and we were going north too and right around the corner he just cut right in front of our car and we hit him,” said Johnson Ferreira.
