The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines the phrase “Rube Goldberg” as “accomplishing by complex means what seemingly could be done simply.”

A group of Abbotsford, B.C. students took that definition to heart when they created “the ultimate Rube Goldberg machine” and a 10-minute video that showed the contraption at work.

Students and staff at the Abbotsford School of Integrated Arts worked with a local artist and a physics major from a local university to build a Rube Goldberg machine – named after the cartoonist who popularized the devices in North America – that snaked through the entire school.

The school says the overly-elaborate device is the perfect way to integrate math, science and the arts.
