Heron rescued from downtown Kelowna

KELOWNA — Kudos to Kelowna’s Downtown On Call for rescuing a heron Sunday.

Downtown On Call offers a wide range of services such as providing directions to tourists, escorting retail staff or customers to their vehicles or providing emergency assistance. In this case, a member provided some assistance to a large heron crossing Bernard Avenue at Ellis Street.

The pictures show the bird using the crosswalk and stopping traffic.

It’s not clear why the bird wouldn’t fly away but it appeared to be in good hands after being rescued by a member of Downtown On Call.

The bird was taken to Stuart Park where it’s resting. Local wildlife officials have been contacted.
