HALIFAX – A Halifax bus tour operator wants to replace the intercity bus service set to be abandoned by Acadian Lines, but only if the provincial government makes some changes to the way it regulates the service.
Dennis Campbell, president of Ambassatours Gray Line, says his company is interested because it knows routes can be viable and lucrative with a “few simple adjustments” to the regulatory system.

Campbell says the loss of bus service with the scheduled closure of Acadian Lines on Nov. 30 is devastating for people in the region.
He says any company that takes on the service will need to be able to make changes to remain competitive with air and rail without the lengthy process of applying to the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board.
Campbell says things such as changing stops or discounted tickets and seat sales currently have to go through the board.
He says without changes to outdated regulations it would only be a matter of time before the next operator goes out of business.
