Construction to affect traffic around Mont-Royal park and McGill University

MONTREAL – Summer traffic chaos in Montreal is upon us and the area around Mont-Royal Park and McGill University will be some of the targets.

As of June 20th parts of Sherbrooke Street West, Doctor-Penfield and McTavish will be closed.

Work will continue from Monday to Sunday, starting at 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. and possibly extending into the evening.

The area won’t completely re-open until May of 2017 as the city is also replacing underground infrastructure.

It’s all part of the Urban Promenade project “Fleuve Montagne,” which aims to improve the comfort and security of pedestrians on the path that connects the Saint-Lawrence river and Mont Royal.

The following sections will be affected:

– Sherbrooke Ouest, between Peel and Robert-Bourassa (complete closure) ;
– Docteur-Penfield ave, between Peel and McTavish (complete closure);
– Rue McTavish (pedestrian), between Sherbrooke and Docteur-Penfield (complete closure).

Circulation changes 

– Sherbrooke West: one way in each direction on most of the construction site
– Docteur-Penfield avenue: complete closure;
– STM bus: service will be maintained although certain stops might be modified

Detours

Sherbrooke St. West:
– East direction : Atwater South / René-Lévesque West / St-Laurent North/ Sherbrooke;
– West direction: St-Urbain South / René-Lévesque East / de la Montagne North /Sherbrooke West.

Docteur-Penfield Avenue:
– East Direction: De la Montagne South / René-Lévesque West / St-Laurent North
