Police car chase leads to multi-vehicle crash in downtown Montreal

MONTREAL – A multi-vehicle crash following a police chase snarled traffic in downtown Montreal, Thursday afternoon.

The accident took place on René Lévesque Blvd. near Jeanne Mance St.

The Sureté du Québec tried to intercept a vehicle for a traffic violation on the Bonaventure Autoroute and pursued the vehicle into downtown Montreal when the driver refused to pull over.

Once on René Lévesque Blvd., the suspect vehicle hit several other cars before coming to a stop, said SQ spokesperson Sgt. Christine Coulombe.

The driver then fled on foot and police are trying to locate him, said Coulombe.

She could not say at what speeds were reached during the pursuit.

There were no serious injuries in the collisions, but several vehicles were damaged.
