It happened shortly after 7:30 p.m. AT close to Birmingham and Morris Streets, according to a two-sentence news release from Halifax Regional Police.

“Police are conducting an investigation at this time and will send out another release at the conclusion of the active operation,” read the statement.

Morris Street was blocked off between Queen and Birmingham Streets as they investigated.

At about 8:22 p.m., police reopened the street but kept a building and an adjacent parking lot taped off.

The scene is about two blocks away from the Halifax Central Library.
