Work on one of Edmonton’s busiest bridges will continue to impact pedestrians and cyclists.
The west sidewalk on the High Level Bridge is being closed for a month starting June 20 in order for safety rails to be installed.

The east sidewalk has been closed for the same reason, but will reopen Friday.
“The east sidewalk is significantly narrower than the west sidewalk, so what we’re asking is that, over next month or so while we finish the project, people do use caution,
“Cyclists, if they can ring their bell, slow down as required, dismount if you need to. Pedestrians, same thing, listen for the bells of the cyclists, stay to the right if you can as you cross the bridge.”
The west sidewalk is expected to be closed for about a month. It will reopen during the Canada Day long weekend but close again Monday, July 4.

The barriers are intended to reduce the number of suicide.
Advocates who pushed for the installation of the rails said research shows similar barriers in other cities have helped reduce the number of deaths.
