Each member of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers burns thousands of calories every day. Providing food to keep these football players fueled is Paul Masserey’s team of 45 cooks.

“When we serve these guys, it’s get the chicken in fast because it’s going to be gone in two seconds,” said the executive chef at Investors Group Field.

“You can see it in their faces. They have to eat now. That is amazing to me.”

The kitchen at the stadium preps three meals a day for the Bombers. Tackling the buffet during training camp are more than 80 hungry huddlers.

“Everyone is in peak physical shape and working as hard as they can because they want to make the team,” said Masserey.

For breakfast, each Bomber gets ten eggs, a pound of potatoes and 3/4 lb of meat. The team goes through 500 lbs of poultry per day. Fruit is also a favourite among the players. The Bombers eat 200 lbs of it every day including 80 lbs of bananas.

“My mind is always going,” said Masserey. “I’m always thinking of what we could feed them next and what we could do to change it up a little bit. We have to keep them excited and keep them smiling.”
