A 34-year-old man has been charged with manslaughter in the October 2015 death of an Edmonton gas station employee.

Just before 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 23, 2015, police responded to a “trouble not known” call at a gas station in the area of 75 Avenue and 50 Street.

Police said a male customer was involved in a physical altercation with the gas station clerk, who was sent to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The clerk, 61-year-old Surinder Pal Singh, died in hospital six days later. Police said he died of head trauma and his death was deemed a homicide.

On Wednesday, Douglas Joseph Chestnut was charged with manslaughter in Singh’s death.

Singh’s death was Edmonton’s 19th homicide of 2015.
