Alberta Health Services (AHS) says elevated levels of fecal cloriforms have been detected in the water at Hasse Lake in Parkland County, prompting a contaminated water advisory to be issued on Wednesday.
Effective immediately, the public is being advised not to swim or wade in the lake and also not to drink the water.
AHS said fecal coliforms can cause vomiting and diarrhea and said the current levels detected in Hasse Lake can result in skin, ear and eye infections if contact is made with the water.
Environmental public health officers will continue to monitor the water at Hasse Lake.
