A 28-year-old Red Deer man has been charged in a conflict that led to an officer-involved shooting on May 1 in the central Alberta city.
Jesse Dyvig was arrested and charged with assaulting a police officer with a weapon and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public on May 31. He’s since been released from custody with conditions and is set to appear in Red Deer Provincial Court June 24.
ASIRT said at the time the original call to police was for an armed man who said he had a gun and suggested he was prepared to use it on himself “or anyone who attended.”
Red Deer RCMP said officers were sent to a downtown apartment building at about 7:15 p.m. for reports of an armed man. The man was shot by police “in their efforts to ensure public safety,” RCMP previously said.
ASIRT said three RCMP officers went into the building and found the man on the second floor. The man was shot once after a “confrontation.”
Red Deer is located about 150 kilometres north of Calgary.
