KELOWNA — May housing starts in Kelowna are up significantly over the same time last year, according to a report from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation.
In May 2016, Kelowna recorded 219 residential building starts, with 64 of those single family homes and 155 of them multiple family units.
That’s up from May 2015, when 74 new residential buildings were started — 49 of them single family homes and 25 multiple family units.
“Total actual housing starts were up significantly in May, relative to the same month last year,” says Taylor Pardy, CMHC Senior Market Analyst.
The trend towards increased housing starts is also happening in other B.C. cities, including Prince George and Vernon.
Kamloops is bucking the trend, where 39 units were started in May 2016 compared to 57 units in the same month last year.
