Forest tent caterpillar control program wraps up in Winnipeg

WINNIPEG — The city’s battle against the creepy, crawly forest tent caterpillars came to an end Tuesday.

The City of Winnipeg’s Insect Control Branch announced the end of the forest tent caterpillar control program in the morning.

Monday evening, the Insect Control Branch treated Insect Management Areas 24, 1 and 2.

Responding to the sudden growth of the forest tent caterpillar population, the Insect Control Branch began a control program which focused on areas at risk of leaf damage.

The majority of the forest tent caterpillar population has stopped feeding according to the city, making spraying ineffective moving forward.
